Texting or using a cell phone while driving is very hazardous. this negligent act
causes a great amount of car accidents every year (copeland 2). while driving, adults
and teenagers cannot resist the urge to pick up their cell phone and send a text or
respond to one. as soon as the driver's eyes meet his/her cellular device, the focus
on the road is drawn away. every year, about 421,000 people are injured in crashes
that have involved a driver who was distracted in some way. each year,
330,000 accidents caused by texting while driving lead to severe injuries. this means
that over 78% of all distracted drivers are distracted because they have been texting
while driving (copeland 5). further, car crashes are four times more common to take
place while the driver is on their mobile device over any other causes (mulgrew 8).
when people engage with a text message, it's not possible to look in both directions
at once; therefore, all of their focus goes straight to the screen of the cell phone. it's
il drivers, especially teenagers, to put down the cell phone and keep their
hands on the wheel, and this negligence results in many dangers, and even deadly
car crashes.
