It was a cool, cloudy morning in moraga. the rain was sure to start pouring at any moment. miguel picked up his pace. he was jogging on a dirt trail through a redwood forest. the trees and undergrowth made walls of green and brown. miguel closed his eyes and deeply inhaled the rich scent of moss, dirt, leaves, and bark. as he listened to birds breaking into their morning songs, miguel sighed and wished that his life was a fertile forest full of living things. he felt very empty because he had no family and no friends. his focus had always been on succeeding as an athlete. miguel devoted his whole life to running marathons, and that cost him everything.
