Part I describes that the townspeople know almost nothing about Lady of Shalott. She lives in her castle like home on the island. Only reapers of the town know her more than just her assumed name (her name is not her own, but from the name of the Island in which she lives). The reapers can hear her cheery song early in the morning and call her the fair lady of Shalott.

Part II describes Lady of Shalott from omniscient point of view. But instead of resolving the mystery of the lady Part II increases it many folds. In this part she is described as a woman who performs magic. We come to know that she has been imprisoned by a curse not to look down from her tower towards Camelot. She knows that she would have to face consequences if she violates this curse. But she herself does not know what the consequences would be. Also in part II, we come to know that she has been given a mirror, through which she can see different people like peasants, girls and passersby.
