The main heroine of the play, Portia, is wealthy, beautiful, and so loyal that even after her father passed away, she respects the lottery protocol for potential suitors that her father set forth in his will. Jessica, on the other hand, disappoints her Jewish father (Shylock) by running away with a Christian (Lorenzo) and stealing his ducats, thus also abandoning her religion.
