In describing american school, kingston writes "the other chinese girls did not talk
her, so i knew the silence had to do with being a chinese girl." but she later writes, "not
maren who were silent at american school found voice at chinese school." instead
reaung a simple comparison - american school (silent) versus chinese school (loud) -
kingston describes a more complex situation. why? what does she want us to think about
or to question?
