The day lion and monkey decided to battle

one day monkey and lion decided to have a test of strength. lion was tired of monkey making fun of him, so they met next to the biggest mountain in the world to set things straight. all of the other animals came along to watch. they knew that lion was much stronger than monkey, so they expected lion to win.

“you think you are so smart,” lion said to monkey, “but it is better to be strong than smart, and i am very strong.”

“well, i am very smart,” monkey replied. “do you really think you are stronger than i am smart? ”

lion laughed, “of course i am. look at this.” lion picked up a very big rock and lifted it over his head.

“are you sure that rock is big enough? ” monkey asked. “i mean, you look pretty silly lifting such a small rock.”

lion thought about this for a while and then lifted up the biggest rock in the field.

“i thought you were supposed to be strong,” monkey said. “can't you lift anything bigger than that? ”

“this is the biggest rock in the field,” lion said, a little short of breath, because the rock truly was heavy.

“but you are lion,” monkey said. “you are supposed to be so strong. if you want to prove that your strength is greater than my intelligence, you would have to lift up that mountain.”

lion looked at the mountain and wondered if this was a good idea. he did not want to look weak in front of monkey and all the other animals, though, so he decided to do it. he lifted and strained and pushed until eventually he was holding the biggest mountain in the world up over his head. it was too heavy, though, for lion to keep it up for long, and just as he got it over his head, he heard something in his back pop. he dropped the mountain to the side and yelled, “my back! i hurt my back! does someone have an ice pack? oh, i need to lie down.”

“i won,” monkey said, laughing. all the animals had to admit that, although he was weaker, monkey had bested lion.
