A thesis statement should state or summarize the main topic of an essay or research paper as well as the main reason or purpose of the analysis in one or two sentences.  

A thesis statement must be included in the introduction, and the following paragraphs must develop and support the thesis statement with enough arguments.

as for symbolic actions, the narrator's tearing down the wallpaper in an attempt to find the "woman" in the wallpaper represents her struggle to retain or regain her sanity.   the wallpaper has been part of her confinement and by her tearing it down, she is freeing herself from that confinement.
