The Similarities between expository writing and argumentative writing are not far fetched.

Both expository and argumentative writing makes use of a logical flow of reasoning to present facts in an essay.Both writings use an objective and convincing approach to present facts.Both writings present supportive facts in the body of an essay with the use of genuine information from reliable sources to buttress each points. There are similarities in the essay structure because they both have an introduction, a thesis, a body containing sufficient facts in paragraphs and a conclusion.

Explanation:

Expository writing is a writing technique that sufficiently explains an issue or topic. For this type of writing, the writer is expected to not share his personal beliefs or ideas. The writer should also be objective and maintain a neutral tone. Examples of Expository writing are, " Analysis on the First Inaugural Speech", "The Role of the Police in Administration of Criminal Justice", etc.

Argumentative writing is an attempt by the writer to convince the readers or audience. It contains the writer's personal opinion and it contains logical reasoning. This type of writing is more subjective. Examples are, Should Tax be increased? Is the Entertainment Industry living up to expectation? etc.

the choice that is not a technique that you should use to come up with ideas for the topic of a research project is, writing about academic subjects that are not interesting to you. this does not belong to the techniques to come up with ideas because having no interest in a certain topic will lose your drive to come up with better ideas. it gives no room for improvement and acquiring of new ideas and information.
