What the subject is and What is going on, Where/When lif

Re-read the poem CLOSELY and highlight & annotate HOW the
subject, themes, narrative etc is coming through - ask yourself
WHY particular words, phrases and poetic techniques have
been used.
FEELINGS Establish what your personal response to
the poem is - how does it make you feel?

the difference between an explicit and implicit meaning is that the explicit meaning of a poem is that the detail is exactly defined. nothing is left to interpretation. an implicit meaning is an implied meaning. kabir's poetry is both explicit and implicit in that it can be interpreted on different levels. the explicit meaning leaves nothing to interpretation while the implicit meaning leaves lots open to interpretation. an example of this is found in the poem "rumi and the spiritual lover". 

- "despite the fact that portia lives in belmont and has many suitors, bassanio believes that he can win her heart. bassanio plans on overcoming his financial obstacles by borrowing money from antonio to travel to belmont. he then plans on marrying portia and becoming wealthy enough to pay off his debts."

one thousand and one nights, also known as arabian nights is a collection of stories whose basic structure is that of embedded narrative. this technique refers to a main story which works as the common frame - or framing narrative - for the other stories, and then this series of stories which are connected to the main one. this technique can also be referred to as a story within a story. the stories stem from the original tale, some begin and end on their own, some are connected to the previous or following one, by means of questions that are answered in the subsequent tale, or characters which reappear.
