Epistrophe (antistrophe) is a literary device that presents repetition of the words or group of the words at the end of sentences (or successive clauses). It can be often found in political speeches. Lincoln used it to create empathy among people there and to remind them that endeavor of soldiers who fought there, even died for the country, will not be enough and that they have to contribute too for welfare in the future. Also, he wanted to stress out that people are the ones who make the American nation and that state works for all of them.
