On December 1st, 1955, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white man on a Montgomery, Alabama bus. This action inspired a strike against the bus system that lasted for around a year. Though she knew it would come with repercussions, Parks still stood her ground, or rather, sat in her seat, to defend her rights as a person. Rights that she didn't have due to her skin color. Yet another iconic moment in the Civil Rights movement was a peaceful protest that ended violently, informally known as "Bloody Sunday". This day, March 7th, 1965, a group of people attempted a peaceful march from Selma, Alabama to Montgomery, the state capitol. During the march, state troopers began beating many of the participants, killing 13 and inflicting serious, even deadly, wounds as one civilian died from his injuries later on. This startling action connects to the present, and is yet another piece of evidence to prove that history repeats itself. In this case, it's police brutality and peaceful protests ending violently. Many things happened during the Civil Rights Movement, however, these are just two that stood out the most.
