Prewriting: Preparing for the Discussion

For this assignment, you'll first write a short compare-and-contrast essay about related themes in Oedipus the King with Pablo Picasso's The Tragedy. After that, you'll have a discussion about what you've written. Students who aren't able to have a discussion may be directed to upload their compare/contrast essay for your teacher.
Pre-writing Exercise

In at least five hundred words, write an essay that compares and contrasts related themes in Picasso's The Tragedy and Sophocles's Oedipus the King. Begin by identifying at least two common themes. Then compare and contrast how each work addresses the theme. Analyze what is included, as well as what is left out of each composition. Include specific examples from the text or painting of how its medium communicates its ideas.

Use this prewriting exercise as the basis for your discussion. If you are unable to discuss in a collaborative environment, you will simply upload your essay to your teacher.
