(2) If you're interested in studying the stars, you don't have to buy an expensive telescope to do it. (3) The first thing to do is to connect with your local astronomy club. (5) Astronomy clubs often arrange "star parties," too, in which people gather somewhere away from the city lights to watch meteor showers and other such events. (6) If you don't have an astronomy club in your city, you can try to find a science center. (7) Science centers almost always have public events in which telescopes are available for public use.
(8) Finally, if you don't live in an area with too many bright lights, you can always scan the night sky with a pair of binoculars. (9) With luck, you'll be able to see satellites, occasional meteors, bright planets like Jupiter and Mars, and ridges on the Moon. (10) If you're lucky enough to live far away from city lights, then all you really need is a good pair of eyes and a little patience—along with a good star map. (11) You'll soon be on your way to learning all the wonders of the night sky.
