Media res is when an author begins a story by starting in the middle of a thrilling or a crucial situation of the story.

Most stories begin with a informative introduction, so that you get to know the characters and the time period of the story. In media res, the author jumps right into the action!

Take for example, a story about a bank heist. Usually, the author would start by introducing the robbers, and why they decide to rob the bank. In media res, the author will begin right in the middle of the bank heist, and go back, after, to fill in the missing information!
