Higher-ranking girls were taught French and the principles of the Medieval Code and attended jousting tournaments. The Hundred Years' War occurred from 1337 to 1453. The conflict started when English kings claimed the French throne. After a series of battles, the French finally ousted the English. The Hundred Years' War marked a change in traditional warfare: New weapons and tactics were utilized, and for the first time in European history, armies were comprised of paid troops rather than vassals. A woman, seventeen years of age, became a hero in France during the Hundred Years' War.
