Deciding to strike (1) out on his own, Judd left Missouri and hitchhiked to Tacoma, Washington. After two days of walking the streets, he got a job in a plywood factory. Standing on a street corner, he searched the classified ads. It was beginning to rain. Pulling up the collar of his overcoat, Judd muttered to himself, “That’s life.
