What is the setting of chapter 9 in freak the mighty

Haven't read this story in a while, but i know that Freak directs Max to an especially distant destination he calls “the Fortress.” It turns out that the Fortress is a new building added to the back of a hospital. So that is where they are, this part takes place here, but idk the time of day or anything like that. Hope this helps a little bit at least!
