I think the funniest part so far in the book is what Talon tells Pidge what people do in the Topside. Talon tells Pidge that Topsiders: “‘The people’s minds have been scorched by the sun,” Talon continued… that's why they build towers instead of tunnels, like normal people… all day Topsiders hurry from one building to another, in uncomfortable shoes”’ (Shusterman 25). I thought that this part of the book was funny because Talon thinks that Topsiders are not normal people when in reality Downsiders aren’t the normal ones. I also picked this part because Talon thinks he's smart but he is just telling Pidge false information about Topsiders. I think the saddest part of the book so far is how the Downside does not have any medicine to cure Pidge’s illness. Talon has to steal medicine from the Topside just to help his sister survive: “‘My sister needs medicine”... Topsiders might not be too bright but there were certain things they did very well. It was no secret that battling death was one of those things” (Shusterman 33). Although Talon knew that Topsiders weren’t so smart he knew that he could help Pidge survive if he got the medicine from the Topside. Sadly, the Downside doesn’t have doctors or medicine to cure illnesses.
