What are three ways that the narrators captors attempt to kill him in "the pit and the pedulum" by edgar allan poe

1) falling into the pit

2) being sliced open by the blade/pendulum

3) being crushed by fiery walls closing in on him

In “The Pit and the Pendulum,” by Edgar Allen Poe, the narrator describes three ways the captors attempt to kill him.  He first encounters a pit that he almost falls into because he is captive in an area of darkness and almost falls in because he could not see where he was going.  After not falling into the pit, he drinks something that was poisoned/drugged and caused him to lose consciousness.  When he wakes up, he finds he is tied to a wooden base where a pendulum slowly swoops down to slice him open at the heart. This is the second way he is almost killed.  He manages to just barely escape by rubbing some meat on his bonds, and some rats eat through the bonds making them looser allowing him to escape.  After he makes this escape, the third way he is almost killed is by the fiery walls of his prison closing in on him, which, he feels is his captor’s way of enticing him to jump into the pit in order to avoid being crushed by fiery walls.   

there on the beach was a struggling turtle.   around its bright green neck was a loop of soda can rings.   in order to the planet, i have made a few changes to my life.   the first change is reducing the number of straws used. the second change was to recycle.   finally, i have worked hard to clean up litter.   it is important to clean our ocean.

you may not think straws have a large impact but they do.   imagine for every straw you sip out of a poor, , adorable turtle is being harmed.   one way i chipped in to is by using metal straws.   these straws are reusable and inexpensive.   another change is simply turning down straws.   by refusing a straw, i’m the turtles one drink at a time.  

however, the ocean just doesn't have turtles.   there are lots of creatures that live there and are harmed by all the litter.   to prevent litter from growing it’s important to recycle.   for me, i have started to buy most goods that are made out of recycled material.   pura vidas, chacos, purses, and too many other items to even count.   plus, when you buy those products they give money to charities.   not only am i the environment, but i’m also feeling better about my self.   finally, i have worked hard to clean up litter.   it is important to clean our ocean.
