Who is Allie , and why is his baseball mitt so special to him

Allie is Holden's younger brother. Holden's baseball mitt is important to him because Allie wrote poems all over it in green ink so that Holden would have something to read will fielding when no one was up to bat. Allie died of Leukemia, and the baseball mitt is an important memory for Holden. It symbolizes Allie's love and empathy.
