Protagonist: Ariel

Antagonist: Maria

Conflict: Ariel is scared about the competition because Maria is going to be against her.

Rising action: Maria is freaking out because she can't find her lucky pink cap, Ariel see’s it and is debating whether to do the right thing or not.

Climax: Ariel decides to do what she knows it right, she hands over her the lucky cap to Maria. Maria is filled with joy, she thanks Ariel.

Falling action: The race is about to start and Ariel watches Maria as her and her dad high five, Marias dad comes over and says, “one for you too” and he gives Ariel a high five.

Resolution: Everyone comes to peace, Ariel and Maria now respect each other more.

Theme: Doing the right thing is more important than winning.

Summary: The book “The meet” By Madelyn Srin starts when Ariel is about to have to go into a swim competition with one of the best swimmers, Maria! She is freaking out. She talks to her dad about it and he reminds her that “what you do is more important than what you win” Ariel has imagined herself with the trophy many of times, she wants to win, no matter what her dad says. It was now Saturday morning, the day of her competition. Ariel is worried sick as she waits for Maria. She sees Maria she is complaining about her lucky pin cap, Ariel hears her saying “… lucky swim cap. gone … without it.” As the coach tries to convince her to just wear another one. To Maria, that cap is important, it is like a lucky charm. As the coach and Maria continue talking Ariel sees the pink cap under the bleacher, here it says in the text, “...when Ariel saw a pink blob, peeking out from under the bleachers. For an instant, she saw herself again, making it to the finals, and living her dream. This time, however, her vision was different. She held the trophy, but her smile was nowhere to be seen.” This was a true act of kindness, Ariel could have just left it, she would for sure have on. But she didn’t, she did the right thing, and Maria was very thankful for that. Right before the competition starts Ariel sees Maria giving a high-five to her dad, as she always does. As Maria’s dad sees Ariel looking, he comes up to her and says, “one for you too” He gives her a high-five. In the end they all earned respect for each other, they also learned something. Doing the right thing is more important than winning.
