During the Great Depression, many people became homeless, hungry, and poor. In 1933, a new president, Franklin D. Roosevelt, was elected. He told America that he had a plan called the New Deal to get through the Great Depression. The New Deal placed regulations, or rules, on banks, the stock market, and businesses. It created jobs for people. The New Deal tried to help feed and house the poor.
