How does the reader know that this is an editorial?
Read the passage.
The city council must reconsider the proposal for the new
four-story hotel at Western Avenue and Lawrence Street.
This hotel is a recipe for disaster. It would eliminate green
space because it would be built where Winkler Park is
now. Also, the construction would force the city to move
its water and sewer lines. According to a recent study by
the Independent Improvement Agency, moving the sewer
lines would cost the city $1.2 million. The same study
showed that the new hotel would cause an increase in
traffic. For these reasons, the city council must reject this
new construction project.
It uses a call to authority to present only facts to the
public.
It provides detailed information that is supported with
statistics.
It offers readers interesting details that may or may not
be true.
It states a claim about a current issue with supporting
reasons and evidence.
