Nobody Town

The two men came into town after the sun went down. One was a short, stocky, and bald fellow. He appeared jovial as his cheeks seemed to stretch and make a permanent smile. The happy man was carrying an unusually long briefcase—almost as long as an umbrella. The other man, however, seemed grave. There was nothing extraordinary about him except the fact that he was carrying a bird in a cage. The ordinary man kept on walking on the sidewalk while the happy man kept coming in and out of the stores. The visit from these two men had created quite a stir in the little town of Nobody. Everybody in the town came out to the balcony, front yard, and windows to catch a glimpse of the happy man and the ordinary man. Everybody in town hoped the two men would stay, at least for the night.
