The Adventures of Tom Sawyer was written by Samuel Clemens who wrote under the name, Mark Twain. When Twain was a boy in school in
the 1840s, he always earned the medal for winning the weekly spelling bee. Once, he left out the first "r" in February so that a girl he liked would
win. This and other stories became the basis for many of the delightful tales in Twain's writings. He went on to become one of the most famous
American writers of all time.
