In the passage it shows how the teacher or Mrs. Lapisuds dosent understand why this person want the chil to be named Nikhil. And to connect it to the real world, when people first started to globalize (if that's a word) yes all of the other things happened but mainly was the confusion between culture and ethnicites. A lot of people today are stil confused becasue of being taught and raised to believe one thing but as they receive education the beleive another. This is a much more serious problem than names but is also a significant difference on the two different minds that are comparing their beleifs.
