Why is a basic understanding of the Trojan War and Greek culture essential?

The Trojan’s fought to protect Homer’s Greek culture.
Homer was from Trojan descent.
Both build a context for Homer’s epic poems.
Homer is the father of epic poetry.

Personally I think that it is important to know about these events of the Trojan war and Greek culture in general because it is important cultural knowledge. But if you had to choose one of these answers, I would have to  say there are kinda two correct answers ; everything except that Homer was Trojan himself and that the Trojans fought to protect culture - they fought for countries.. He was the FATHER of epic poetry, both of these things were portrayed in his poems. 

“thy baited hooks shall tangle me no more.”

“hath taught me to set in trifles no store,”

“me lusteth no longer rotten boughs to climb.”
