In the book, "Trifles", by Susan Glaspell, she portrays a homicide episode including a couple. The couple were Mr. and Mrs. John Wright.

John Wright was portrayed as a volatile man who repressed his significant other. Mrs. Wright had recently been captured by the police for the dubious homicide of her significant other. Two cops, joined by their spouses, Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters went to the house to research the scene and gather proof. The ladies went to the house fully intent on bringing a difference in garments for Mrs. Wright who was currently in care. There, they found proof that Mrs. Wright probably killed her better half. One of the bits of proof was the wrung neck of Mrs. Wrights canary which they accepted was killed by Mr. Wright. They were in this way persuaded that Mrs Wright was as a rule abused by Mr. Wright inciting her to kill her significant other. They then, at that point, hide the proof from their spouses.

A lawyer would have also helped Mrs. Wright even if the evidence was submitted. Not submitting the evidence also makes it seem like the women supported the crime.
