Making story quilts is one way that communities have worked together to tell their stories and bring about healing. After Hurricane Katrina, the staff at the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center in Mississippi want to do something to help their community. They are going to different schools to work with children who have experienced the hurricane. The children were making artwork expressing their thoughts and feelings about the disaster. The staff then scanned the artwork, printed it on fabric, and were sewing the blocks into eight different quilts. Another example of a quilt used as a healing exercise is the AIDS memorial quilt. The AIDS memorial quilt, a huge ongoing project, will serve as a memorial to people who die from AIDS. Individual panels were made by the loved ones of those who have died. Since it was created in 1995, the quilt is growing to include more than 46,000 panels. When they are received, the panels were assembled into twelve-foot by twelve-foot blocks and sewn together. At over a million square feet, this memorial quilt is the biggest piece of community folk art in the world.

Time is not always change. time can also mean continuity, and it can mean keeping acknowledged truths in mind despite differences in circumstances.there is no better example of this in things fall apart than the retellings of the proverb about the bird named eneke, the language in both retellings is almost identical despite the length of time that has passed between their repetitions. in comparing the usages of the same proverb, achebe allows his readers to note the similarities and differences between the situations, and he them understand how this story can be applied to their own lives.
