In the poem we can see that the grandmother, who is already very old, calls her granddaughter to learn how to make rolls. It is implicit in the poem that the grandmother wants to spend time with her granddaughter and teaches her to make rolls that she likes so much, but the grandmother does not say that.

The granddaughter, on the other hand, believes that the grandmother who teaches her to make rolls because she knows that her death is near, so if the granddaughter learns to make the rolls she may not be dependent on the grandmother when she leaves. The granddaughter doesn't want to face the reality that her grandmother will die someday, but she doesn't tell her grandmother that and just rejects the invitation to learn how to roll.

The grandmother is upset about her granddaughter's refusal, but she doesn't say that to her either.
