1. Let's say you're in a debate, you put across your argument to pursued or convince the judges or audience to your ideas.

2. Let's say someone is attempting to do something bad like smoking or drinking alcohol, you talk them out or pursued them not to do it.

3. For example, an injustice happened in your hometown and you want justice, you call out (pursued) people into action.

4. When you want to convince other people to agree to you.

5. When you pursued your friend to agree to your pranks or jokes.

as for symbolic actions, the narrator's tearing down the wallpaper in an attempt to find the "woman" in the wallpaper represents her struggle to retain or regain her sanity.   the wallpaper has been part of her confinement and by her tearing it down, she is freeing herself from that confinement.
