Budget: To determine your budget, do some online research. Find three comparable pieces to what you will create and average the costs. You should find the items in the kinds of stores where you imagine your outfit being sold. Don’t forget to include in your searches the part of the outfit that you are going to make so that you can determine its retail value. Once you have found the retail cost of your items, you need to factor in the mark-up, the profit that retailers build into the costs of their clothes. When you have the retail cost of your outfit, subtract 20 percent to determine the budget for the cost of your items. For example, if the retail cost is $220, assume that the mark-up accounts for $44 (20 percent) of the price. That would make your budget $176 ($220-$44=$176). Setting a strict budget will not only help you distinguish between needs and wants, but also to be realistic in your planning because money is always an object.(fashion class)

The harlem renaissance dawned in an era of pervasive racism and segregation. although legally "free," many african americans were still bound by ideas that had their roots in the slavery of earlier centuries. identity and freedom are important ideas presented in many of the poems from the harlem renaissance. furthermore, the values of identity and freedom are not unique to particular times and places. as hughes expresses in "dream variations," all humans want to be able to develop their identities in freedom. what role does freedom play in the poems you read in this unit? what is required of a society to enable each individual to be true to his or her identity and be free to live by that identity? write about at least three of the poems, describing how the poet uses imagery to depict freedom and identity, the lack of it, or the desire for it.
