Everyone liked Bella, and she knew it. It had been her mission since third grade to convince the teachers as well as the students that she was the most extraordinary kid in the entire school. It was working. Bella had the most friends, she was always picked to play on everyone’s team during recess, and she was the smartest student in her grade. As far as she was concerned, she had no competition, except Mary. Mary was the smart, but shy girl who sat beside her during math time. It seemed to Bella that Mrs. White always paired them together because Mrs. White believed that they were equally smart. How could Mrs. White be so naïve? This disillusioned teacher even gave Mary the highest score on their last math test. Bella was going to make sure no one else dared to compare her to Mary or to think they were the same in any way! At last, Bella had her chance when little miss apprehensive, Mary, refused to show the class how to solve the math problem. Bella jumped right in chanting, “Mary, Mary, she can’t carry.” The class laughed. Bella was winning! No one would dare think Mary was as talented as Bella.

During Recess, Bella noticed Mary getting an earful from the teacher. Bella began to smirk as she kicked the game winning home run. Everyone was cheering her name and she liked the way it sound. Everything was right in Bella’s world because she was the star.
In paragraph 3, why does Bella smirk?

A) She is happy because everyone is cheering for her.
B) She is happy that everyone in her class liked her.
C) She is happy that she kicked the gaming winning homerun.

Freedoms" speech. i have called for personal sacrifice. i am assured of the willingness of almost all americans to respond to that call. a part of the sacrifice means the payment of more money in taxes. in my budget message i shall recommend that a greater portion of this great defense program be paid for from taxation than we are paying today. no person should try, or be allowed, to get rich out of this program; and the principle of tax payments in accordance with ability to pay should be constantly before our eyes to guide our legislation. what argument is roosevelt supporting with his appeal to logic in the underlined section of the excerpt? if americans are willing to trust roosevelt, it only makes sense that he will ensure that the tax money is well managed. if americans are willing to make a personal sacrifice, it only makes sense that they will be seen as both noble and patriotic. if americans feel it is right to enter the war, it only makes sense that they will have to pay more in taxes to cover the costs. if americans feel it is right to pay more taxes, it only makes sense that they should also agree it is right to enter the war.
