It is truly amazing how such an insignificant amount of communication can have such an effect on one's life. Had I not heard those words, would I still be content with my lot in life? And another question; how can those four words lead me to hate a man I had never even met? I am now looking at him in despair, hate and fury welling up silently behind the calm facade I have built up for myself.

He has done nothing wrong; no, and yet as I say this over and over again in my head I am left with no less contempt, no more compassion than the moment he opened his mouth. He approached me calmly, softly; in a gentle manner he spoke to me, and yet as I concider the effect of his words I am filled with a painful rage.

He had stepped out of the room, turning to me sullenly. He sat down next to me and with a quiet tone, he spoke the words.

"I'm sorry. She's gone."

I wish I never heard the man.
