I am standing dozens of miles away from a volcano, watching the opening stages of an eruption through a pair of binoculars. I am seeing a large plume of steam forming near the crater. Over the course of a few hours, the northeast side of the steep-sided cone begins to bulge, and there have been two very small (but noticeable) tremors. I know that I should get to high ground to avoid the pyroclastic flow and lateral blast that is sure to result from the eruption. Thankfully, the resort I am staying at on the island of Hawaii has an evacuation plan for guests, and is now setting that plan in motion. Their plan is to move us to higher ground on the northeast side of the island (the volcano is on the southwest section). Required:
