Why would the British Parliament say taxation was justified?

They would say that the British troops fought for the colonists to defend the colonies, so the higher taxes is justified to pay for the troops, supplies, etc. The colonists countered back that they did not have proper representation to have a say on how the taxes should be raised and on what product, which is what led to the Revolutionary War.
