The northern white rhino is endangered and very important to the food chain. “They spread nutrients and provide the basis of complex food chain.” Because they consume more than 50kg of vegetation per day and deposit more than 20kg of dung. The females wonder around their home depositing dung. And then the males wonder around the around the territories creating dung middens. And that fertilizes the soils so it makes a big difference on the food chain since many of the animals are herbivores. There aren’t many northern white rhinos left in the world. There are only 2 northern white rhinos left in the world. The way they got endangered was from poachers. It was because the poachers needed the rhino horns. They get the horns because people in Asia think they can cure ailments. For example nosebleeds and fevers.
The places are that they are in is South Africa, Namibia, Kenya, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. And those are the only five countries that they live in. And the two habitats are grasslands and savannahs. They usually live near water sources. It is because they generally consume water as many times as twice a day.
So overall the northern white rhino is very important to their environment. And the few left need to be preserved. Because if they aren’t then they will be poached and go extinct. Making a big impact on the environment.
