What is the relationship between the narrator of this novel and Morrie?

The relationship between them is quite a special one. Morrie taught the narrator back in college and was basically like his mentor. When he found out Morrie had gotten sick, he visited him every chance he could get and remind him of all the good times they had back when Mitch was in school. Even though Morrie had developed Parkinson's, he still taught Mitch a number of life lessons before he dies.
