3. Based on the words and actions of the Cyclops, how would you describe his character? How does this influence the events that follow?

Polyphemus, a one-eyed Cyclops is deceptive, strong, and most important for the story, the son of the god Poseidon.

When Odysseus and his men arrive, Polyphemus pretends to be hospitable. But as is so often the case in Homer, the hospitality turned out to be deceptive: Polyphemus makes a tasty meal of two of Odysseus's men. He then shuts away Odysseus and his men, planning to use them for future meals. In other words, he does not perceive these human beings as more than a food supply for him, as if they are cattle.
