What makes people want to be scared

Not sure why someone would WANT to be scared, but it could be to purposely get help from others, or to be like someone else.

If my mom told me to kill a spider, I might act as though I'm scared to get out of doing it (causing someone else to do it.) Or if a lot of people were scared of something, I might act as if I am to just to be like them or fit in I suppose.
