I would go to the future, for if I were to change anything in my pass the butterfly affect could ruin my potential life, and, even if my past is embarrassing, it helps me learn lessons. Lessons that I may not have later on in life. If it would help see a lost lover, it could leave a negative impact, because if I were to go back to my present self, I would miss them more, and be even more sad then when I lost them. (Considering changes to the past would be erased after being teleported back to the future, and if you were to do something to prevent them from passing it wouldn't work.) Meanwhile, going to the future you could learn about the future world, and figure out how to make items from there, and possibly become famous by making it before anyone else does. It would be interesting to see your future self, how the world works years from the present, and even if you saw how you died you could end up possibly preventing it.
