Being cowardly was a big deal to the Greeks, since a leader was required to have courage in order to fight, but being greedy was considered even worse. The text says that the rest of the loot after a raid that was not taken by the leader was "given to the men to divide up, so that no one may go cheated of an equal share." Distributing wealth fairly was important to the Greeks, so being called greedy was a disrespectful insult.
