Worried that she might be late for dinner, Debby kept pedaling fast so that she would reach home on time. While riding through a dark, lonely street, a faint squeak caught her attention. She decided to ignore the faint noise. But as the noise became louder, Debby decided to get off the bike and figure out the source of the noise. She came across a small, helpless puppy that was badly bruised. Debby felt sorry for that helpless creature, who was yelping in pain. She immediately carried the puppy with her and pedaled to the nearest medical clinic so that the puppy could be taken care of. Debby realized that she could not abandon the puppy. Therefore, she decided to take the puppy home with her. Debby was worried about her family's reaction to seeing the puppy. Initially, Debby's mother was annoyed when she saw Debby with the puppy. But when she heard him crying helplessly in pain, her heart melted. She allowed Debby to keep the puppy home till the puppy recovered.
The next day, Debby went around the neighborhood to find out if the puppy belonged to
anyone. After receiving a negative answer from all the neighbors, she came back home, disappointed. On her mother's suggestion, Debby approached the local sheriff and told him about the lost puppy. Taking the sheriff's advice, Debby decided to keep the puppy with her till he was claimed by his owner.
Debby would spend most of her time with the puppy. She named him Tim. She would spend time with him every day before leaving for school. Debby would also rush back home after school to play with Tim. Over time, Tim and Debby developed a strong bond. Tim would wait for Debby to return from school and take him out on a walk. He would only eat food if Debby fed him. He would also snuggle next to Debby on the couch and watch television. On a bright summer evening, when Debby happily returned from school, she was taken aback to see an unknown car waiting at her porch. Debby was welcomed home by an excited Tim. On reaching the foyer, Debby was introduced to Mr. Jones, Tim's master. He told them that the sheriff had informed him about his missing dog and he had come to take Tim back with him. Debby was so fond of Tim that she didn't want him to go. But she knew she had to let him go back to his home. With tears in her eyes, she bid farewell to Tim. As she waved goodbye to Tim, she realized that she would always cherish the good memories they shared.
