First, it had been eleven or twelve o'clock when the Dutch Nazi had come. Then it must have been about one-thirty when I'd heard the footsteps on the inner stairway. Then, suddenly, Elli was back, and Henk had arrived, and I realized that it was five o'clock and the day had passed.
