Look at the female characters in the novel: Hester, Mistress Hibbins, Pearl, and the “marketplace women.” Provide textual evidence to support your opinion. You must be consistent. If he is a feminist, then prove it with each character/group. If he is a misogynist, then prove it with each character/group. If he is chronicling the time period with different “types” of females, then prove that., but for what purpose? Textual evidence (quote the text with page numbers).
