I wrote this essay really late at night, so can someone read it and tell me if it makes sense and is grammatically correct? The Best Barbershop Quartet
So many things transpired to try to find the best barbershop quartet of all time. I'll tell you it wasn't easy. Some might say classic barbershop quartet is the way to go. You know the red and white stripe vests and the doo-ops that go on for days with the straw boater hats that draw crowds. Some prefer the new comedy style barbershop quartets. Preference is a key factor when deciding any style of music, and barbershop quartet judging can get pretty intense. So when different generations clash on which barbershop quartet is more superior, you know it has to be documented which barbershop quartet won. This is that story.
It was like any other day in the Aldrich household. I was minding my own business, just doing my homework, while my siblings rolled around on the floor like animals. Ordinarily, I listen to barbershop competitions during the time I take to finish my projects because what thirteen-year-old doesn't listen to the same genre of music as their grandparents did? A song from the comedy quartet Lunch Break came up on my playlist. KJ, the baritone singer for this particular quartet, told a joke that I thought was hilarious. Naturally, I shared it with the rest of my family. Little did I know that this small action would lead to the conclusion of titling one barbershop quartet the greatest of all time.
After my mom got over her initial shock that I was listening to barbershop quartets while doing my assignment, she told me, "Don't you think that listening to music is counterproductive?" I was shocked at such an accusation and defended the need to listen to music. I told her that she doesn't even like barbershop quartet music, so she doesn't get it. She looked shocked and said, "Honey, I've been listening to barbershop quartet music before you were born." This little statement transpired into the biggest debate that hit the Aldrich house since the 2012 Cranapple Canister "Bomb" that still has a stain on the kitchen ceiling. My dad heard "barbershop quartet" and all of a sudden the new kitchen faucet he was trying to install was left uninstalled.
The debate went all over the place. From playing the Boston Common to the NewFangled Four to playing Statler Brothers who happened to not be in the genre of Barbershop but is a quartet in my mom and dad's era, we decided that the new comedy barbershop quartets are more entertaining with their jokes. Well, we agreed to disagree, but the debate will go down in Aldrich's history as very enlightening into music preference when concerning Barbershop Quartets. (But the NewFangled Four are still the best!)
