Explanation:

A transitive verb is one that only makes sense if it exerts its action on an object. An intransitive verb can still be able to make sense without one.  A transitive verb needs to transfer its action to something or someone an object. In essence, transitive means to affect something in a certain way.

Some examples:

Intransitive

She was crying all day long. Main word: was crying

Transitive

I ate the cherries. Main word: ate
