Octavian was the adopted son of Julius Caesar and the first Emperor of the Roman Empire. After Julius Caesar was assassinated in Rome, Octavian who was only 18 at the time, returned to Rome and demanded his inheritance left to him by Caesar.

In a series of patiently executed moves, Octavian gained the support of Caesar's troops, marched with Mark Anthony and defeated Brutus and Cassius who were the leaders of the faction that killed Caesar and then defeated Mark Anthony and Cleopatra in Egypt which made him the strongest force in Rome.

In order not to rouse the suspicions of the Roman citizens he patiently passed laws that centred power on him and then proceeded to overhaul Roman life with vast ranging reforms that made Rome peaceful for as long as 400 years thereby making him one of the most effective emperors to ever live.
