i think that hazel's mom meant it in a good way. might have been used in a conversation to try and modivate hazel. lets say the conversation went something like this: "hey mom can I take a break fro my schoolwork for the day?" " No darling you need to get all of you work done so that you can grow up and get a life." "well if taking this one tiny break is going to keep me from getting a life I don't want a life" "Hazel, you deserve a life" I think her mom was trying to imply that hazel could easily get one if she tried hard enough. hazel has high grades so this must be her mom trying to say she is a great person and deserves a life. it just came out the wrong way.
