Explanation:

When Jonas gets the assignment/position of Receiver of Memories, he has to endure the pain that those emotions cause. Without those emotions, such as the one with the war scene, he ends the memory crying. Therefore, when he receives the memories, the emotional pain is way worse. Jonas has to endure what nobody else has to, and has to keep it secret. He has to carry this burden alone as well, increasing the misery of having to keep all of these memories from everyone and shoulder it on his own.
